This video is part of the Incontáveis ??series, produced by the UFRJ Memory and Truth Commission. The series tells stories that have not yet been told about the military dictatorship in Brazil. This episode addresses the issue of the regime's violence against the homosexual and transsexual population, which we know today under the acronym LGBTQIA+. Dissident bodies and sexualities were in the sights of the dictatorial repressive apparatus, which sought to build a society along the lines of "morals and good customs". The concern with the "apology for homosexuality", often associated with international communism, served to blur the boundaries between moral and political, justifying several censures and dismissals. Violence against gays, lesbians and trans people was also constant, taking place through police raids, arrests and torture. The ideas of sexual freedom and desire as something dissociated from power relations are questioned in the film through documents and testimonies from the period. The narration of the episode is by Hércules Quintanilha, a social scientist trained by the UFF, detained by the security forces in Rio de Janeiro during the dictatorship.
