The period of pre-menopause and menopause is that time when we, women, face a series of physical, biological and emotional changes that take us off course and disrupt our balance and well-being. Each one has their own way of getting through this phase and arriving at the other side in one piece. In the fifth episode of "Um Caso à Parte", Noemia Colonna reflects on how dance has been an ally in facing the ups and downs of this transition to 50 with more serenity. She also talks to the artist and doctoral student in performance art, Deise Faria Nunes, who rediscovered dance not only as an artistic expression, but also as a powerful way of reconnecting with herself while experiencing pre-menopause. About to turn 50, Deise is working on the launch of “Ugly Mirrors”, a video art installation with photographs of herself, which addresses the aging process and the challenges of pre-menopause. She sheds light on why this phase of life is so difficult to accept, due to all the standards and taboos related to women's sexual life and reproductive health, and how this mainly impacts the lives of black women.
