Black in Football / 1.Football in Black and White
Football as we know it was born in Europe and was brought to Brazil by well-born white people. Here, these white people, heirs to the wealth produced in slavery, residents of the south zone of Rio, created social football clubs for white people and heirs like them. But how was this impenetrable space of Rio's whiteness opened to black men, favela residents and suburbanites? What made white people in Rio give up their symbols of power and surrender to the enchantment of football played by black legs? In this episode we seek to understand what were the ideals that permeated the minds of the National Elite and why this elite tried to segregate the black population from the sport that would be the most popular in the country.
