Jerusalem Alabê: The Saga of a Griot
Alabê de Jerusalem is the opera by Altay Veloso. The artist spent 25 years working on the work, which tells the story of Ogundana, an African from Dahomey raised to become an alabê - the person responsible in the Yoruba tribes for sacred musical instruments. In the story, Ogundana is a contemporary of Jesus Christ who returns two thousand years later as a spiritual entity to speak of this encounter. Flávia Vieira and Elismar Braga talked to Altay, a griot of our times. The episode's script is by the composer's daughter, Bárbara Veloso, and the interpretation of excerpts from the work is by actor Izak Dahora.
